Siemens merges linear motors business with Krauss-Maffei
Siemens has formalised its close working relationship with Kraus-Maffei by forming a jointly-owned linear motor company. Siemens will have a 60% stake in the combined operation - called Siemens Linear Motor Systems - and will manage the company, which falls under the Motion Control Systems Division of Siemens` Automation and Drives group.
The new company starts with a staff of 30 and sales of around DM30m (£10m). Michael Sienz, previously head of Krauss-Maffei Linear Motor Systems, has been appointed managing director of the Munich-based operation.
The partners expect substantial growth for the linear motor business in machine tool engineering and in general automation. They say that the combined operation will lead to "a more intensive deployment of personnel resources" and will optimise support for existing customers.
