Workshop will extend lives of LV breakers

ABB has set up a facility for servicing and repairing low-voltage circuit breakers at its Stone, Staffordshire factory, and says it can extend the working lives of equipment made both by itself and by other manufacturers. The 252m2 workshop will provide overhaul, test and refurbishment facilities for LV breakers and, if required, will return them to their original condition. Engineers from the facility will also perform planned preventive maintenance at customer sites.


“Refurbishing or repairing circuit-breakers is an economical alternative to purchasing new parts," says Mark Clegg, ABB`s UK sales manager for LV breakers service. "As well as ensuring the breaker maintains its original performance, our services extend the life of the circuit breaker.”

One of the workshop`s services is to refurbish breakers completely and return them to a "good as new" condition. This includes cleaning the mechanical components thoroughly before reassembling them to their original specification, using original alignments and tooling. Retrofits can also be performed to improve electrical and mechanical performance.

Other workshop services include routine maintenance, repairs and replacements, testing and training.
