Cabinet-built drives join the line-up
ABB unveiled the latest additions to its new-generation ACS880 industrial drives at the recent Hannover Fair, including cabinet-built single drives, multi-drives and drive modules. The compact drives need less space than earlier generations and are designed to be easy to install and connect.
Common to all ACS880 drives are: an intuitive control panel with a USB connection; ABB`s direct torque control (DTC) technology for controlling different types of motor, including AC induction and permanent magnet models; and integrated safety, including safe torque-off (STO). Extended safety functions are available via optional modules.
The compact new ACS880 cabinet-built single drives are customised to suit an application. They cover a power range from 45–250kW and voltage ratings from 380–500V AC, with 690V AC versions coming later. Enclosure classes extend from IP21 to IP22 as standard, with IP42 and IP54 available as options.
The ACS880 multidrives come with a common DC bus arrangement to power several drives jointly and thus to save energy. A single power line connection and a common supply reduce the need for cabling and floor space. The multidrives are available from 1.5–250kW and for voltages from 380–500V AC, with extensions planned to 6MW and 690V. Enclosure classes extend from IP21 as standard to IP22, with IP42 and IP54 available as options.
The ACS880 drive modules simplify cabinet assembly. They come with everything needed for a complete common DC configuration, along with various electrical and mechanical kit accessories. The modules are available in a power range of 1.5–250kW and for voltages from 380–500V AC, with 690V available later.
The free Drive Composer PC tool supports basic start-up and maintenance, while a professional version is available for more advanced drive configuration and monitoring. There is a wide range of fieldbus adapters available and a built-in drive-to-drive link for fast master-follower control systems. Built-in energy calculators provide data on kWh used and saved, CO2 reduced and money saved.
